What "tamper proof labels" really means in practice
A sealed carton, a capped bottle or a bonded assembly can be made physically difficult to open, but a self-adhesive label is a thin film on a surface. Anyone with a blade, solvent or heat can remove it. What the label controls is whether the removal can be hidden afterwards.
That distinction matters commercially. If your goal is to make entry impossible, you need a physical seal or a destructive closure. If your goal is to make any entry visible to the next person who inspects the package — a distributor, a customs officer, a consumer, an auditor — then a tamper proof label is the right tool, provided it is specified correctly. Buyers who treat "tamper proof" as an absolute guarantee tend to pick the wrong construction, pay more than necessary, and still end up with a gap in their process.
The three families compared
All three products below are pressure-sensitive labels. They differ in what happens at the moment someone tries to lift them.
Tamper evident sealing labels
These are general sealing labels: frangible paper or film that tears, crazes or delaminates when peeled. They are the simplest and cheapest way to show that a flap, cap or bag has been opened. The evidence is the damaged label itself, which is why application matters as much as the material — a seal that bridges two surfaces only works if the substrate underneath grips the adhesive properly. Use them for carton flaps, jar lids and poly bags where a broken seal is obvious on sight.
Double-layer anti-peel labels
This construction carries a hidden second layer. When someone tries to peel the top layer away, the label separates and the concealed layer — typically carrying a code, pattern or warning message — stays on the product or is revealed underneath. Removal cannot be completed cleanly, and the hidden layer both proves interference and gives your inspection team something to check against. The double-layer anti-peel label is a construction used for higher-value goods where a simple tear is not enough evidence.
VOID transfer labels
VOID labels use a release pattern that leaves the word VOID — or a custom message — on the surface when the label is lifted. The residue is the point: it cannot be reattached invisibly, and the message transfers to the substrate. VOID security labels suit electronics, spare parts, warranty seals and any asset where you want a permanent mark left behind on the item itself if the seal is disturbed.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Double-layer anti-peel label | MOQ 20,000 pcs; lead time 7–14 days; reveals hidden layer on peel |
| VOID transfer label | US$0.003–0.007 per label at 100,000+ volume tiers; transfers VOID or custom message |
| Sealing label | General tamper evident sealing construction; quote on specification |
The price above is to the stated volume tier only; smaller runs and custom constructions are quoted per job. Monthly capacity at our 1,500 m² factory runs 510,000–1,000,000 labels, with 60–100 employees and more than 60 anti-counterfeiting technologies available across the range, so mixed programmes are practical.
Matching the label to the risk
A useful rule of thumb: the label should leave evidence proportionate to the value of what it protects and the sophistication of the person likely to interfere.
For fast-moving consumer goods and logistics, a sealing label is usually enough — the loss is small and the inspection is casual. For branded goods sold through distributors, the double-layer anti-peel label gives your field team a definite check: hidden layer present or absent. For warranty and asset control, a VOID transfer label is often the better fit because the mark stays on the device after the label is gone. If you are unsure which way a SKU should go, start from the inspection step: who looks at the package next, and what do you want them to see?
Two practical notes. First, test on your actual substrate — glass, HDPE, powder-coated metal and recycled board all behave differently, and a construction that works on one may lift too easily or bond too aggressively on another. Second, treat the label as one part of a programme. A serialised code or a verification step adds far more deterrence than a stronger adhesive alone. Our tamper evident labels overview covers the wider range if you want to compare formats.
Why we won't call any label tamper proof without qualification
We have manufactured security labels in Shenzhen since 2008, and the request we push back on most often is "make it impossible to remove". It is the wrong brief. A label can be made difficult to remove intact, and it can be made certain to leave evidence, but it cannot be made impossible to defeat by someone determined enough with the right tools.
What we can do is make interference expensive, slow and visible — and document the construction so your team knows exactly what evidence to look for. That is a more useful promise, and it holds up in an audit or a dispute. Our factory is audited by TÜV Rheinland (report MIC-ASR262171), and we are happy to share the specification sheet for any construction you are evaluating so your own quality team can verify the claim.

Tell us the substrate, the inspection step and the annual volume for each SKU, and we will recommend one construction rather than three. Start with the double-layer anti-peel labels if removal needs to reveal a hidden layer, the VOID security labels if the surface should carry a permanent mark, or go straight to our contact page with your specification and target volume. Samples of standard constructions are the fastest way to settle a substrate question.
FAQ
Are tamper proof labels actually reusable after removal?
No. Every construction on this page is single-use by design: a sealing label tears, a double-layer label separates and exposes the hidden layer, and a VOID label leaves its message behind. Once disturbed, the label cannot be returned to its original state, which is exactly what makes it useful as evidence.
Which construction should I choose for electronics and spare parts?
VOID transfer labels are usually the best starting point, because the residue stays on the housing or component after the label is lifted, giving your service or warranty team a permanent mark to inspect. Confirm adhesion on the specific plastic or coating first, since low-surface-energy housings can need a different adhesive.
What is the minimum order and lead time?
For double-layer anti-peel labels the MOQ is 20,000 pieces with a lead time of 7–14 days. VOID transfer labels are quoted from US$0.003–0.007 per label at 100,000+ volume tiers. Other constructions, including sealing labels, are quoted against your specification and quantity.
