How void security labels work
A void security label carries a hidden release pattern in its adhesive. While the label stays on the product, the surface looks clean and professional. When someone peels it, the adhesive splits along the pattern, and a VOID message — or your own custom message — appears in the released area.
The key engineering point is what happens to the message. On lifting, the VOID message is revealed: the label is left with an obvious void pattern, and the surface carries matching evidence that the label was opened. That is the defining behaviour of a void-open label. This is useful when you want evidence of tampering to stay with the item itself, not just with the label that was removed.
For applications where residue on the product is unwanted, a non-transfer or partial-transfer construction may suit better. Our guide to tamper-evident vs tamper-proof vs VOID labels explains the differences and helps you choose before you specify.
When to specify void security labels
Void security labels are typically specified where opening or resealing must be detectable:
- Electronics and components — sealing cartons, bags and device housings so that entry leaves a mark.
- Pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging — secondary packaging, cartons and closures where a broken seal must be visible.
- Luxury goods, cosmetics and spirits — closures and boxes where resealing after refilling is a known risk.
- Warranty and service parts — labels that show whether a product has been opened before inspection.
- Logistics and document sealing — envelopes, bags and containers that must arrive unopened.
The common thread: the label is not only a brand marker, it is a witness. If the message does not appear clearly, the label has failed its purpose, which is why the release pattern and adhesive must be matched to the actual surface.
Product options and pricing
Our product is an original factory customized anti-counterfeiting VOID open laser self-adhesive hologram label. It combines a holographic layer for visual authentication with VOID release behavior, so a single label does both jobs. Material is paper, customization is available, and samples are US$0.01 per piece.
| Volume | Price |
|---|---|
| 100,000–499,999 labels | US$0.007 per label |
| 500,000–999,999 labels | US$0.005 per label |
| 1,000,000+ labels | US$0.003 per label |
We also produce a custom red screen-printing QR code barcode VOID open sticker at US$0.03–0.10 per piece, with a minimum order of 10,000. It adds a scannable code to the void construction for track-and-trace or promotional use alongside tamper evidence.
All figures above are the prices for these two products. Different sizes, materials, colors and message patterns change the price, so treat the table as a starting point and confirm against your specification.
What to send for an accurate quote
Five details determine both feasibility and price for void security labels:
- Surface — the exact substrate ( coated paper, film, glass, metal, painted plastic ). Adhesive and release pattern are chosen for it.
- Message — "VOID", "OPENED", "STOP", or your own text or symbol. Keep it legible at the label size you need.
- Size and shape — including any die-cut outline.
- Message behaviour — how the VOID evidence should present on your surface and pack.
- Print and finish — hologram, QR code, barcode, serial number, screen-printed color.
Send these with a sample of the surface if possible. Testing on the real substrate is the only reliable way to confirm that the void message transfers cleanly and that the adhesive holds through storage and transport.
Manufacturing background
Shenzhen Huaxin Anti-Counterfeiting Technology Co., Ltd. has manufactured security labels in Shenzhen since 2008. The company has 60–100 employees and a 1,500 m² factory, with monthly capacity of 510,000–1,000,000 labels and more than 60 anti-counterfeiting technologies available. The factory is audited by TÜV Rheinland (report MIC-ASR262171), and that audit report is available on request for your supplier qualification file.
If you are comparing label types before committing, start with the VOID labels category page for the full range, and use the comparison guide to decide whether void is the right mechanism for your product. When your specification is ready, request a quote with your surface, size, message and volume, and we will respond with pricing and a sample plan.
FAQ
Will the VOID message appear on the product as well as the label?
Yes. When the label is lifted, a VOID pattern shows on the label and matching evidence remains on the surface it was attached to, which is the standard behaviour for applications where tamper evidence must stay with the item. Tell us the surface at quotation stage so the construction is matched to it.
Can the label be customized with our logo, QR code or serial number?
Yes. The VOID open hologram label is customizable, and we also produce a red screen-printing QR code barcode VOID open sticker. You can combine the void message with a hologram, printed code or serial number in one label. Send artwork and the code data format with your enquiry so we can confirm print feasibility at your label size.
What is the minimum order and how much do samples cost?
The hologram VOID label is priced from 100,000 labels per tier, and samples are US$0.01 per piece. The red screen-printing QR code barcode VOID open sticker has a minimum order of 10,000 at US$0.03–0.10 per piece. Sample quantities are small and intended for testing on your actual surface before you place a production order.
