What a Cigarette Tax Stamp Has to Do
A cigarette tax stamp is a controlled-issue security document. It has two jobs at once: it must be difficult and expensive to counterfeit, and it must be quick for an inspector to verify in the field — under normal light, under UV, with a magnifier, or by touch. Because the stamp is applied at production speed and stays on the pack through the entire distribution chain, the substrate, adhesive, and print method all have to survive handling, abrasion, and moisture without the security elements breaking down.
We approach each stamp as a layered system rather than a single printed image. Visible layers deter casual copying; covert layers support instrument-based verification in the field.
Security Features for Excise and Tax Stamps
Our production covers more than 60 anti-counterfeiting technologies, and a typical excise stamp combines several of them so that no single printing method can reproduce the whole. The appropriate mix depends on your verification equipment and the level of inspection your field staff can perform.
Commonly specified combinations include:
- Holographic and optically variable elements — hologram elements and latent images that change appearance with viewing angle, combined with multi-band laser colour-changing metallic thread.
- Covert markers — UV-fluorescent inks and fibres, and micro-text that is read under magnification.
- Substrate and print security — paper-texture security, embedded security threads, and fine micro-printing from the factory’s technology list.
- Serialisation and tracking — variable data numbering, QR codes, and batch codes applied in register with the security print, so each stamp carries a unique identity.
- Tamper evidence — tamper-evident adhesives and VOID constructions that show clearly if a stamp is lifted and reapplied.
For tobacco packaging applications we also account for the application method: sheet-fed, roll-fed, and hand-applied processes place different demands on adhesive and die-cut tolerance, and we match the construction accordingly.
Formats, Materials, and Applications
Stamps are supplied as die-cut sheets or rolls, in rectangular format, with dimensions set to your applicator and programme specification.
Typical applications include:
- Excise and duty stamp programmes
- Tobacco packaging and pack sealing
- Alcohol and wine excise tax stamps
- High-security product authentication labels for regulated goods
If your programme also requires secure vouchers or certificates alongside stamps — for example, numbered entitlement documents or authentication certificates — those are produced through the same security print workflow. Details are on our security vouchers and certificates page.

Production and Quality Control
The factory occupies 1,500 m² in Shenzhen and employs 60–100 staff. Finished stamps go through the factory’s standard inspection before packing.

FAQ
What information do you need to quote a cigarette tax stamp programme?
We need the stamp dimensions, the substrate and adhesive you require, the list of security features, whether the stamp is sheet- or roll-fed and the core size, any variable data or numbering specification, and your target quantity and delivery schedule. Artwork can follow; a written specification is enough for us to return a quote and propose a sample plan.
Can you print a stamp to our programme specification?
Yes — send the specification your programme works to, together with artwork you hold the rights to use. We confirm which features are produced within our security print processes and which need substitution, and we prove the proposed construction with a sample for your approval before production begins.
How are orders shipped and paid?
Payment terms are T/T. Delivery is 5–15 days after sample approval for custom tax stamps, with timing confirmed once the specification and quantity are fixed. Please include your destination and preferred shipping terms in your enquiry so we can quote accordingly.
To discuss a programme, request a quote through our contact page with your specification and quantity, or review the custom tax stamp range for further product detail.
